Our Services

The brokenness that lands men and women in jail, left unaddressed, perpetuates a cycle of destructive thinking and behaviors. Founded on the Christian beliefs of human dignity and redemption, Seeds of Hope Jail Ministry seeks to disrupt this cycle. Using targeted cognitive therapy classes, compassionate staff and volunteers, and restorative community, participants develop and practice the biblically based values of good citizenship. We help prepare prisoners to take their places as productive and positive contributors to their communities inside and outside of jail.

Jail Ministry

Current and former Board Members of SOH as well as volunteers visit the Finney County Jail on a weekly basis to provide ministry. We believe in the restoration of soul through Christ. Jail ministry provides deep spiritual lessons and reduces recidivism by changed behavior. By engaging inmates inside the jail, we are cultivating a positive support network for success after release.

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." 1 Peter 5:10

Moral Reconation Therapy

SOH received a grant from the Garden City Alcohol Fund Advisory Committee to provide evidence-based cognitive behavioral classes. Seeds of Hope offers Moral Reconation Training (MRT) to all participants seeking assistance. MRT is a cognitive behavioral treatment that aims to change thought process and decision making associated with addiction.

MRT works to build higher pinnacles of moral reasoning by coming face-to-face with your current behaviors, attitudes and beliefs. Participants are rewarded with gift cards for meeting their goals.

The MRT case manager monitors the participants closely and provides accountability and community resources to build positive changes in the participants life. Seeds of Hope has developed a strong relationship with Catholic Charities of SWKS which helps with finding housing resources and substance abuse treatment planning.

Strengths-Based, Family Centered Case Management

SOH provides individualized case management services that draw on the strengths of incarcerated and recently released individuals, their families and their communities. This strategy has been proven to be a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration and poverty. It considers the cultural backgrounds of participants and builds on interactions between and within their social networks. Testing of the model has involved both youth and adults in a wide range of social and geographic settings, ranging from the Navajo Nation to Housing Projects in Chicago and high-risk neighborhoods in New York City. Evaluations show that 90% of participants were able to resolve their medical service needs and 80% resolved their social service needs within six months of reentry.

Community Collaboration

SOH works closely with Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas and other local entities are utilized to connect former inmates with resources and tools to support successful reintegration. These include but are not limited to: Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services, Emmaus House Homeless Shelter, Kansas Works Employment Center, Garden City Housing Authority, Kansas Food Bank, Genesis Health, Department for Children and Families, Garden City Community College, Compass Behavioral Health, Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, City On A Hill, Heartland Drug Assessment Center, and various addiction counseling agencies, churches and businesses.
